What does a furnace reset button do?

All home furnaces have an easy-to-spot red reset button. This safety feature is designed to trigger automatically, shutting down your furnace when a problem is detected. Sometimes, this will happen by mistake, and getting your system up and running again is as easy as pressing the button. However, if resetting your furnace fails to correct the issue, there's a good chance the problem is more serious, and service is required.

PLEASE CONSULT A TECHNICIAN BEFORE HITTING THE RESET BUTTON.

Each time you push the reset button more fuel enters the chamber where the burners are located. The equipment could catch fire or explode if an excessive amount of oil accumulates in this area.

What causes the reset button to trip?

Common problems can include a dirty CAD cell, faulty burner or fuel pump, blocked oil nozzle, loose electrical connections and more - all of which are beyond the scope of a home repair.

A professional will have the tools and expertise necessary to pinpoint the issue and suggest appropriate repairs. If your burner reset button keeps tripping, contact J & E Burner Service to request a service call today!

How often should your oil burner be serviced?

At LEAST once a year. If your furnace is used more than average, you'll want to schedule routine service twice a year.

How to Avoid a No-Heat Call This Winter:

  • Keep the area around the oil burner clean

  • Purchase fuel from a reliable source

  • Have a properly trained technician service your equipment regularly
